Children and young people are not part of the Church of the future, they are part of the Church of today, and at St Peter’s and St Paul’s we have various activities for children of all ages.

Sunday Fun Club

St Peter’s and St Paul’s Sunday Fun Club meets every Sunday in term time from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., and is for all those aged between three and ten (though younger siblings sometimes like to join in). The Sunday Fun Club follows the teaching of Scripture and the Church by using a wide variety of resources, including worksheets relevant to the season of the Church’s year. The children often produce banners and posters to display on the notice board at the back of Church. For more information on Sunday Fun Club, contact Gail Radka on 01751 470252.

Our youth group, Yoof, is taking a break at the moment while we look for a new leader. If you feel called to work with young people in our parish, why not speak to the Vicar, Fr Antony Pritchett?

Children’s Corner

For those who are too small for Sunday Fun Club, St Peter’s and St Paul’s runs a children’s corner at the back of Church. This is available for parents and their children whenever the Church is unlocked, whether there is a service on at the time or not. The children’s corner features toys and games, as well as a selection of Christian children’s stories for them to enjoy. Please do make use of this facility either during a service, or if you are otherwise passing the Church and just want to pop in to keep them entertained!

Open the Book

Open the Book is an initiative run by Pickering and District Churches Together which sees members of the various denominations go into the schools in the Parish to re-tell stories from the Bible using drama, costume, and often young volunteers from the audience too. If you would like to be involved in the Open the Book initiative, please speak to one of the clergy.

Children’s Society

St Peter’s and St Paul’s regularly supports the work of the Children’s Society by collections in boxes and at the annual Christingle service. The Society seeks to tackle the root causes of problems affecting young people, and support young runaways, young carers and those who are in care. If you are interested in being a ‘box holder’ and collecting for the Society, speak to one of the clergy or come and support our annual Christingle service.

Children and Youth Committee

The Children and Youth Committee meets regularly to oversee our children’s and youth work at St Peter’s and St Paul’s. In addition to the work listed above, it also oversees baptism preparation.

All churches in the Pickering Benefice have embraced fully the Diocese of York’s policy for the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
